Ruth had played her grandmother’s 1928 baby grand for forty years and was moving to a smaller home across Evanston. The piano was the only thing she was nervous about.

The staircase curved through ninety degrees with an oak banister, and the case had original finish that could not be touched up.

  • Assessment: We measured the staircase in person and planned the route with the legs and lyre removed.
  • Equipment: Piano board, four movers, felt-lined straps and a padded cover for the case.
  • Placement: The piano was rebuilt, levelled and placed on new caster cups in the living room.

The move took two hours and fifteen minutes. A tuner came two weeks later and said it had barely moved out of pitch.
